17th Century MalabarianHand Colored Engraving

Description: Malabarian 17th Century Hand Colored Engraving, inscribed in the upper right, Pars 4. Tab. 2./ Mau lat/ and J 2/ Mat./ Ambo/ bram/ (arabic writing) Arab. The Malabar Coast includes the whole southwest corner of India as far back as the ghaut line. The ancient form of the name was Male, 'where the pepper grows', whence the name Malayalam for the prevailing language.

Condition: is good overall. Plate marks and a central crease are visible. See photos.
