Petri Gissel (Danish 1895-1975) Art Deco Fauvist Oil
Description: Petri Gissel (Danish 1895-1975) Oil on Canvas, Circa 1930; Painted in the fauvist manner, and depicting a view of the Roman Forum through Titus' Arch, with figures in the foreground. The Roman Forum was the central area around which ancient Rome developed principally through commerce and the administration of justice. This area includes many temples, basilicas, arches and other ancient buildings and monuments. Gissel attended the Royal Danish Academy of Art 1917-20. He exhibited widely at the official exhbitions on Charlottenborg, Copenhagen for several years, in Oslo and in Helsingfors. He won several prices, including the Eckersberg medal in 1953.
Condition: is great overall, with slight age toning to the varnish.
