American Folk Art Polychromed Jockey 19th C
Description: American Folk Art Polychromed Statue of a Jockey, Circa 1870-80; wearing a cap and dressed in racing attire, with a steel ring in his right hand, standing on a rectangular plinth. Provenance: by oral tradition- Canfield Casino, Saratoga Race Course, Saratoga NY; Acquired by a Kentuckian when the Casino and Grounds were sold in 1911, and descended in the family to today. This provenance is reinforced by a wood analysis done by the Center for Wood Anatomy Research in Madison WI on October 25, 2005; which found that it is carved from Red Pine. Red Pine is a native american pine predominately found throughout New England, New York, and Pennsylvania and into Canada.
Condition: is great overall, repair to right arm where it meets the body. General Wear as you would expect to see according its normal use through time, losses to fingers on left hand.
