Rare Renaissance Italian Bronze by Rocatagliata 17th C

Description: Rare Italian Renaissance Period Bronze by Nicolo Rocatagliata (Venetian Active 1580-1636), featuring a Musical Cherub raised on a socle base. Roccatagliata spent most of his career in Venice, creating the statues of St. George and Stephen on the choir balustrade in San Giorgio Maggiore, and the two bronze angles on the high altar. He spent almost a decade working in Maggiore, creating the 'Allegory of the Redemption' in St. Moise and the altar frontal, depicting a musical entombement. He may have worked in Genoa for a period of time. Numerous small bronzes are ascribed to him. Additionally, Tintoretto used his sculptures to plot his compositions.

Condition: is great overall, this may have been the finial for an andiron.
